I wasn't sure exactly where the concert was when I got to the university.
Then I saw two thousand girls sitting on the grass. I figured I had found
it. I waited in line for about three hours, but it was hardly waiting in
line. I ended up knowing about 30 girls there, so we talked, and played
frisbee and talked about ani pretentiously, like we'd seen her perform a
million times already. 8:00pm finally rolled around and a tension pulled
the lineup tightly together, and everyone pushed in a girlish sort of
non-pushing way to get into the building. I got in pretty quickly, and I
was sort of surprised to see everyone sitting down when I got inside. So I
sat down at the back of the group of sitting down girls, and sat. And
waited with my friend kate for something to happen.
The opener band came
on. They were o.k.. Then the anticipation intensified as we waited for
ani. Before she came out on stage someone got the idea to stand up. So we
all stood up. I couldn't see as well anymore, but I figured if I was going
to dance, this was going to be the only way to do it. Ani stepped out on
stage. She was so tiny. I always figured she'd be bigger. (This coming
from a girl who is 5 feet tall exactly.) She was wearing a black dress and
a black bra, neither of which were staying on too well. Her tattoo on her
chest was the first thing I noticed. She looked so beautiful. I was so
close to her too. Close enough to spit on her if I had wanted to. She
started with virtue and I think I had an orgasm. That, and tis of thee,
are the only two songs I like off of the new album. Oh, by the way, I'm
out of the up up up closet. I hate that album. Ack, really, there isn't
one ani song I don't like on all her other albums, but this thing just
sucks. Sorry I gotta say it. Anyways it was amazing. The whole thing was
amazing. I was fixated on her the hole time. I couldn't believe that ani
was in front of me. I wish I had words to make phrases to express how
phenomenal she was. The only thing I didn't like was the lights and the
razzle dazzle of it all. A girl and her guitar would have been plenty.
She finished up and left. But we didn't. We screamed til she came back
and played an encore. They finished up with joyful girl and we screamed a
little while longer then went and bought c.d.'s and stuff. I got the new
vinyl. Its pretty good. I like the my i.q. version thingie on it. So if
you ever get a chance to see ani, even if you arent a big fan (if small
fans exist, I always figured it was die hard righteous babes, and the rest
of the world), go see her. I traveled by plane, train, and bus to get
there. Seriously. Thanks ani. there.
