Emeren's review Simon's review

Montreal show was last night- wow, whatta show. It's only my 2nd time seeing her, so it's still the thrill of actually seeing her that's exciting- not to mention the fact that the show was incredible- and she played a long time. She played "Both Hands"- I was so happy. And of course, about half the show was little anecdotes and stories and fooling around with Andy. she sang the chorus to "I will always love you" at one point- and andy sang "Possession" by Sarah- very funny.

What annoyed me what that she started singing "Untouchable Face", and everyone, of course, was singing along and *screaming* along with the chorus. So she got up to the last verse, then said, "Can you guys do your little folksinger a favor?" And she explained what the song's about- how the "fuck you" is not this "throw your fist in the air" cry, but a pathetic attempt to express what you're feeling to "the one that got away". So she asked everyone to be quiet and really think about what it was about- so she starts into the last verse, and it's very quiet- no one's singing- and it's just beautiful, and just as she's saying "fuck you"- really soft and wavery (that's not a word,is it?)- some girl shouts out "FUCK YOU!" as loud as she can. Just ruined the moment. I don't understand people sometimes.

I can understand singing along with songs that are fast and loud, but I don't understand people who pick the quietest moment in the quietest song to shout something out. Is it just me?

Anyway, it was an incredible show- just wanted to share.

Went to the ani concert on thursday in montreal. pretty good concert really. She seemed to be in a pretty good mood, but the crowd was really screamy and shit like that, but she calmed us down with a couple stories and analogies about live performances, so that was good.

The set was amazing. If anyone knows anything about a boot, i'd be interested. the stories she told were wicked too. I know there has to be a bootleg because halfway through andy came up to the front row, took a recorder out of someone's hands and started talking into it with ani. It was hilarious. They told them a story, then gave the player back. Way to go. I almost fainted when she played Cradle And All. Wicked. She also did this wicked thing with Shameless and Gravel. With Shameless she started it really slowly with beautiful guitar and a new melody, then blasted it originally at the chorus. For Gravel, Julie did this nice piano piece, very langorous and meloncholic, and then ani blasted that one halfway through as well. Sorry this is getting long. the opening act was pretty good.

OK, a lot of people complain about ani's big venues. In a way I feel the same way, but I don't mind her venues which are about two, two and a half thousand. I think they're energetic enough with that much audience, but everyone can see her. I guess that's whats good about living in places where she has a smaller following (but it's getting bigger, god help us). I guess stadiums and ten thousands of people would suck though, you're right. Give me info about the club tour.
