Geoffrey's review
Dar Williams was playing warm up and she really complemented Ani's style
and got the crowd buzzing.
There was a good rapport between Ani and the audience and she played
Untouchable Face at the request of one of the audience members. She even
fielded questions about the whereabouts of Andy, Heidi, Sara and Jason all
of whom were absent at the concert and apparently will be for the whole
tour. She seemed to have trouble remembering the words during some of the
songs but compensated with heaps of anecdotes that had us in stitches.
There was also a lot of her characteristic charisma and energy in her
performance.
The National Theatre is really a sedentary location so there wasn't really
anyone on their feet until she let loose with Shameless. Both Hands was
an encore brought on by a very appreciative audience.
I think Ani found the perfect balance between the material from her new
album and her older stuff.
