I saw Ani in Grass Valley last month and she was energized. She had spent the previous day with Utah Phillips,
who lives in Grass Valley, and was obviously reenergized by it. She talked more with the crowd and had a lot
more fun than I've seen here have for a long time. Utah, for those who don't know, is one of her musical heroes.
He even performed a little story telling with Ani and the band backing him up. Ani was grinning ear to ear.
Somebody in the crowd gave Ani a very nice African Drum as a present and she repaid the gift by playing it
in one of her three encores. My wife, who previously wasn't to hip on Ani, left the show thanking me for
exposing her to Ani. She remarked that Ani's performance was the most incredible thing that she had ever seen
