early in the show, she alluded to a recent interview in which the
press person had hinted that her "alleged bisexuality" was just an concerted
effort to appeal to a lesbian audience, blah de blah de blah. so a bit
later when she paused between songs, someone from up front yelled, "we love
you, ani, no matter who you choose to love!" and there was a cheer, and
someone else said "we love your hair!" and ani laughed and said "am i that
lame tonight?"
she then told a story about a "folk festival in belgium that i was
at last summer or the summer before or six years ago," and she had met janis
ian. and the first thing janis said was "ani! nice boots!" i think you
all know the boots, right? anyway, janis kept going on and tried to BUY
them from ani. and ani's like, "no way! a lot of me's for sale, but...
these are my BOOTS." and i guess janis just wouldn't give up; she was like
"no, really," and kept calling and stuff. and ani said "janis! this could
come between us," and smiled.
Then some friend who had seen woodstock '94 called ani and left a
message on her machine: "ani! janis found the boots!" apparently she had
scoured shoe stores until she found exactly the same pair as ani refused to
sell her :)
