ramona's review samara's review
she came out (with hot pink braids in) and gave a few people copies she had made backstage of her face smashed into the xerox machine. in her big boots she was almost as tall as the little announcer guy-- ani seemed to be having fun, and andy and jason both sounded great, but only andy really talked much... during a tape change ani recited her bug poem, and also took a little time aside to talk about what NAPG meant to her before playing it. throughout the night she played to the audience more than the cameras, even reciting Tiptoe without the mic and sitting on a lap during a break...she played
gravel
little plastic castles
anticipate
(dark sunglasses song--what was the title?)
letter to a john
--> the slant
32 flavors
swandive (alone)
not a pretty girl (alone)
tiptoe
cradle and all
shy
-bug poem-
shameless
in or out (3 tries, 2 broken strings)
both hands
then, a pseudo-encore, as ani said that they had to do a coupla songs over cause the studio people said they sucked. she played gravel and dark sunglasses again.
although the setting was a bit weird, and the Man reminded us "now kids this is for a TV show, so show some respect/restraint", the show went really well. we all sat relatively still and quiet during songs for the first 15 minutes, and then less so after that. ani really seemed to respond to the crowd, and the show got stronger as it progressed. anyway, the whole taping lasted about 1hr 15mins...i hope they cut it well for TV!

came from albany (on a bus) for this show.
got to the studio around 6:30 and there was a line formed already. only about 25 people though. had to sit on the cold street corner for 2-3 hours. but it was worth it.
there was no stage. the bands stuff was set-up in the middle of the studio. it was a bit odd that most of the seats were behind the band. they told us that they didn't know when the show was going to air and that this was the biggest audience they ever had. i don't really know why people (at home watching the show) would want to see the audience behind the performer. i was sitting right behind ani, a little to her right. it was really odd because i am used to seeing ani up on a stage, but here it was like i took a chair and put it on stage behind ani. she joked that we knew what it was like being andy and we had the butt view (i enjoyed my seat(: ) she came out handing out autographed photocopies of her, andy, and jason's head in the xerox machine. she had bubblegum-pink extensions braided in. it was so amazing to have ani so close that i could of reached out and touched her (it was tough, but i resisted the urge). she was in a good mood and her and andy were joking alot. i got the setlist from a nice guy who got it from a cameraman. i was gonna grab ani's setlist but i was standing around waiting for someone official to come by to ask, but some chick grabbed it before. so i was like ok, and i saw her pick on the ground so i picked it up, then i saw her water bottle (that she drank out of) so i grabbed that, then i saw another of her picks lying there so i picked that up. a girl came up to me and asked if she could have a pick and i gave it to her (damn, am i nice). setlist:
gravel
little plastic castles
anticipate
loom
letter to a john
32 flavors
swan dive
not a pretty girl
cradle
shy
shameless
in or out
both hands
she got a standing ovation from a very enthusiastic crowd. good thing they had to come back out and re-do gravel and loom cause "they sucked":)
