Avalon Stage, Glastonbury Festival, England29th June 1997 |

After four days trudging through the Glastonbury mud, morale was low but there was a light at the end of the tunnel: a little American called Ani. at 8:30 on June 29th in the acoustic tent I saw Ani DiFranco for the first time. A huge fan, I had been waiting for this set the whole weekend and it was worth the wait !
Armed with only an acoustic guitar, Ani captivated the audience, which filled the tent and produced classic songs back-to-back. She kept up the pace, pausing only to introduce her rhythm section and take a request of 'Shy'. Along the way were renditions of 'Cradle And All' and 'Untouchable Face' masterly blended into other songs and poems.
Ani's bubbly character repeatedly showed and she kept the audience hungry for more until she left the stage, seemingly only seconds after she took to it. After huge appeals for an encore by the brilliantly vocal audience they were treated to more and no one left disappointed.
